My first ever artist collaboration
Sophie Tea x @miasylviaa
I met the beautiful Mia when I was searching for set designers for my show at The London Palladium. This legend is a remarkable talent who sculpts fabric into actual personalities!!! 🪠@miasylviaa
Mia came to my show and made the most timeless backdrop for our N*DIES to be painted and splattered against (and for that I’m very grateful!) xx
5 days ago Mia came to my new studio in Shoreditch for a morning coffee so I could thank her properly for her creations at the show. A 1 hour meeting turned into us both CLEARING our entire days to chat about our experiences as artist’s. I’m completely fascinated by her process. One thing we kept noticing is how starkly different our practices are; be it with colour, materials and form. These differences, and the respect for them, forged the most beautiful basis to collaborate on something truely unique. đź’
At about midday we had decided we wanted to make something together and I had the opportunity with @tateward to put something up for auction. We whipped out some unprimed canvas and began painting together, understanding that it would form part of our final piece.
The following day Mia invited me to her beautiful farmhouse studio where we began the official creation process. We agreed that we wanted to make a hanging sculpture that embodied the essence of a women’s curves. With our vision locked in 🔒 we began to work intuitively attaching fabrics, feathers, beads and obviously we had to go boujii with the 24k gold chain ⚜️ Mia actually kept the splatted material from our Palladium show so of course that was included!! I’m very proud of this work and proud that it is now up for auction 🕯️
