The Shark Story

Posted by admin on

My Shark painting, titled 'Legend' has been one of most popular both through social media and print orders. It's creation was also one of my favourite artistic experiences so far. I am THRILLED to announce that limited edition prints are now available. To mark the occasion, I thought I would share how it came to be.

I guess it all started 1 year ago when I was painting in NYC. I was on was of those shitty hostel bar crawls and I met an Aussie man-friend, Will. At 3am we said our drunken goodbyes in a pancake restaurant (no euphemism, just getting fat). I had a flight to Toronto at 10am, and he had one to Miami. Short and sweet; story of our bloody lives.

6 months later he decided he wanted a painting in Sydney, so I OBVIOUSLY went.

After a couple of days exploring and STUPIDLY deciding to fancy someone who lives half way across the world, I started to paint. I always do my best work when I'm in a good place, 'Legend' is still my favourite piece.

Once the painting was complete, I literally had 10 minutes to post a banging selfie with it, pack up and leave the house to the airport. Once I landed in London and opened Instagram, I was met with print requests; a lot of them! I FORGOT to take a high-resolution shot to produce limited edition prints with.

My man travels for work so we were able to meet in London, Israel and Hawaii. The point is, I managed to stack up enough face-time to bag myself another invite to Sydney; this time for a month rather than a week!

After more lols and sight-seeing it was time to sort out getting a high-resolution shot. My first port-of-call was a photographer 5 minutes down the road. Will and I carried the canvas SLASH, I was doing more en-route commission hustling/people hounding, he did the heavy lifting.

$75 later and we were done. It all seemed too easy and it was! I sent the image files through to my print guy, Martin, in London. He said the quality wasn't great and advised to only sell small prints. I TOTALLY respect him as he does such an amazing job for me. Quality is something I just won't compromise on, so I decided to source an alternative image capture.

After an ask-around the local art scene, a state-of-the-art scanner was recommended.  At a steep $300 (that I'm still crippled by) I decided to go ahead. There are only a handful of these scanners worldwide, SO I'm proud to present the best quality print EVER made.

Capturing at this level has actually allowed me to reproduce limited edition prints at up to 8ft, which is crazy! The sizes I have available onsite are A3, A2, A1, A0 and actual size 42"x72". With that all sorted we decided to have some more YOLO's before my departure to Coachella. Most of this involves me sitting on his car, see below.

Providing our wifi connection remains strong, Will and I have a jam-packed year of holidaying ahead and hopefully I'll get to the stage where I can just INVITE MYSELF over to give Sharky a visit.
